History:
Early records of the United Church available for Norris Arm South date back to 1916. Church services in that period were held in the school. In 1924 the foundation for the first United Church building was started and in 1926 the corner stone was laid. This building was used for regular Church services until 1971 when the new building was officially opened for worship at that time by Rev. A.W. Mouland and Rev. G. Monster who was the officiating Minister and served the Pastoral Charge from 1971 to 1973.
The corner stone, samples of the hymn books used at that time, the Bible, the Communion Set, the Collection plate and some minute books from the Board of Management and the UCW or the Ladies Aid Group as they were known at that time is stored in a Memorial Curio Cabinet in the present Church building.
Our Church was part of the Laurencton Pastoral Charge for a number of years, then the Glenwood Pastoral Charge and eventually we became part of the Bishop's Falls Pastoral Charge of which we are still one of the four points on that charge.
From the early days of the United Church we have had a number of ministers and Lay people who have helped us bring our Church to where it is today. Being a multi-point Charge, it was primarily the committment of the Lay people that made the Church in Norris Arm strong. Some of the Lay Leaders were Charles Hayter, Herb Freake, Robert Roberts, Willard Poole, and in recent years, Clifford Hayter, Evelyn Hollett, on occasion, William Guy and Dave Dawe. For the past two years Harold Tuck has been conducting worship services every second Sunday.
